Will #Washington + #Oregon grab ARPA-E funding this time around to support regional #cleantech growth? Hope so!

I haven’t heard much talk coming from the University of Washington about rare-earth alternatives, but its strong materials-science research labs could yield competitive projects. Washington state has biofuels experience from Imperium Renewables, General BioDiesel, Boeing’s aviation fuels work and a string of other companies. And, as the Seattle digital clean tech crowd says, the techie talent pool should make the area a natural leader in linking energy to IT through grid controls. Washington’s solar-energy sector is largely a mom-and-pop affair, but Oregon’s solar big dogs could be competitive in ARPA-E’s goal of slashing the costs of utility-scale solar.
