The New York Times Has It Wrong On No Child Left Behind | Care2 Causes

Not really sure how the "No child left behind' has worked out in other states but here in Pa. it seems to mean that no child can be failed whether or not they have learned the material or not they get passed on to the next grade. There are kids graduating from high school that can not read !! When I was a kid my Mother loved to have us read to her. I still remember coming home from school excited about being able to read more and more and Mom would sit down with me and let me read to her. Where are the parents ? how do you not know your kid can't read? It really never took that long, just a few minutes and I have no doubt she did that with all six of us. The education of our children is not the sole responsibility of the schools to begin with. What needs to happen is that our schools need to recognize the fact that some students are very proficient in some areas and not so...
