Love spectacled bears? Adopt one & help WWF protect the future of nature #SpeciesOfTheDay
The only bear in South America, spectacled bears live throughout the dense forested areas on the slopes of the Andes Mountains in South America. While they are classified as omnivores, they are almost entirely vegetarian. They eat fruit, berries, tree barks, and occasionally small rodents, birds and insects. Because food is available year round, spectacled bears do not hibernate. They have claws adapted for climbing, and can build platforms in trees to reach fruit, which makes up half their diet. Spectacled bears are at risk as a result of habitat loss.
