Lord Deben put forward as Chair of Committee on Climate Change,

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Edward Davey today announced that Lord Deben has been selected as the preferred candidate to succeed Lord Turner as chair of the Committee on Climate Change. Before Lord Deben’s appointment can be confirmed, the Energy and Climate Change Committee must undertake the requisite pre-appointment scrutiny process. Lord Deben, who served as Secretary of State for the Environment between 1993 and 1997, will take up the post once the appointment is agreed by the committee. Edward Davey said: “The Committee on Climate Change plays an absolutely critical role in advising the Government on the direction and progress of its energy and climate change policies.
