Don't use your loo as a bin. UK beaches awash with cotton buds, condoms, sanitary towels. 40% rise in bathroom waste

MCS Beachwatch Big Weekend is the only national volunteer beach clean-up and survey in the UK. Over the weekend of the 18th and 19th of September 2010, 376 beaches were cleaned and 4,927 people went to their local beach to make a big difference. What sort of rubbish is on our beaches? Unfortunately, plastic still makes up the majority. Over half of all litter found was made of plastic, and since Beachwatch Big Weekend began in 1994 plastic items have increased by 135%. Plastics may take thousands of years to fully break down and generally doesn't leave the marine environment. This is why plastics pose a great threat to marine wildlife.
