We need a banking Leveson to tackle the City's toxic culture

has long argued that we need a more diverse range of financial institutions in our economy, including those mutual ownership structures so common in Germany, which foster longer-term incentives instead of obsessing over this quarter’s share price. Successive governments have contented themselves with piecemeal reforms of the banking industry, but this is not enough. We need a root and branch reform of an industry that has grown too powerful – a Leveson-style inquiry to tackle the toxic culture of the City.
