Dog\'s Death in Utah Lab Causes Upset:

The events surrounding the death of a dog at the University of Utah last year have lead to renewed efforts from animal rights groups and animal lovers to stop the sale of shelter animals to research facilities, which is perfectly legal in 36 states. Unfortunately, there are some situations where pet owners can no longer continue to care for their animals. While owners may try their best to give their pets a second chance at having a forever home, they may be unwittingly putting them in situations where they can instead become victims. Sunny, the dog in question, was a female pit bull who wound up at the Utah Animal Adoption Center, a no-kill shelter, where she was microchipped and adopted out.
