We spend a massive 20% of our electricity bill just on keeping appliances on standby #PoweringTheNation

Household electricity-using habits revealed A report by the Energy Saving Trust, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) Published 26 June 2012 This joint commission was an ambitious, ground-breaking study designed to uncover the actual, day-to-day, minute-by-minute electricity consumption habits of the nation. The in-depth Household Electricity Use Study aimed to cover the electricity usage of a representative sample of English owner-occupier homes. The results, summarised in the report Powering the nation , provide us with the richest insights ever produced in the UK into how we use the electrical products that power our lives. The report uncovers a number of surprises, mostly unwelcome ones: The power consumption of appliances on standby is much higher than we thought. Single-person household...
