Prison Libraries Ban Literature, Raise Controversy

One of the most interesting assignments in my short university teaching experience was the course I taught through a university program at a medium security state prison. I wish the prison authorities would keep a better watch on illicit drugs than ban books. The course I taught was part of a program for inmates within two years of release. They would do their first two years at an educational center within the prison (where I taught) and the last two years at the university while residing in a halfway house. One disturbing thing was that many of them were superior students to many students on the outside. I just taught my course the way I would teach it on the outside.
