Australia creates world’s biggest network of marine protected areas--1.1 million sq miles of ocean!

This newly established MPA covers more than 1.1 million square miles of ocean. Within our stunningly diverse oceans, MPAs protect habitats such as coral reefs and sea grass beds from destructive fishing practices. They allow depleted fish populations to recover and provide refuge for endangered species such as marine turtles. They also provide food security for people who rely on the ocean for their daily ...
