Without concerted efforts to improve water management, the world's economic growth is likely to be severely hampered by shortages, new analysis will say today. A report published by consultancy Frontier Economics and HSBC finds the 10 most populous river basins are expected to produce a quarter of global GDP by 2050, up from 10 per cent today. Although nine of these basins are in developing nations, this projected economic output is greater than the forecast size of the US, German, and Japanese economies combined.
