I didn’t have a login at GE so I’ll comment here instead: Isn’t the real question involved with physical bundling of the functions of PV generation and power conditioning/storage? Both are useful grid utility functions. ASre there system efficiences or cost savings from packaging them together physically? I can only think of a few, and they don’t sound very promising to me: (1) Avoidance of AC to DC conversion for feeding a DC storage media (battery of supercapacitor or ??) (2) Reuse of inverter electronics and power equipment for both PV grid tie, and storage based power conditioning. It is hard for me to imagine (1) being a plus, as I question what that does wrt. operating the panels near their maximum power point. I can imagine that the second reason might prevail, as power conditioning needs an inverter function to operate. But with inverters being a relatively small p...
