The great outdoors is a romantic place. Fresh air, breathtaking scenery, as well as physical and mental challenges, are just a few attributes an extended period in the wild offers. The outdoors has attracted the likes of Henry David Thoreau, John Muir, Ansel Adams and many more enthusiasts of all backgrounds. However, enjoying the wild comes with the responsibility of leaving the smallest human impression on it as possible. Nowhere in Thoreau’s Walden does one read a description of disposing of human waste in a bag, but it is this particular practice that is helping limit human impact on popular wilderness destinations today.
