Dear EPA: As a concerned environmentalist and citizen, thank you for publicizing your preliminary finding that palm-oil based biofuels do not meet the greenhouse gas standards of the federal renewable fuels mandate. I am aware that palm oil industry giants such as Cargill and Wilmar are heavily investing in an army of lobbyists to urge you to soften these environmental standards. Alarmingly, consumption of palm oil in the United States is growing at a much faster rate than anywhere else in the world--and this decision could also determine to what extent the U.S. becomes a major palm oil buyer. I do not want rainforest destruction, orangutan extinction, and displacement of Indigenous communities in our countrys hands.
