It’s hard to look at India and think they’re going to have the time and space to figure that out. What is it, a third the size of the continental United States with four times as many people? I went there and used the tiger and the Taj Mahal to explore population at that level and the pressures hat exist. When you realize that a creature like a tiger, in order for the genetics to work, has to have free range, and the very reasonable fear these animals put into farmers. It’s a big ask to get 300 or 400 million Indians on board with conservation when they’re just worried about feeding their kids.… But I also met some warriors who are trying to figure it out. If they can get one more wild animal back in the forest that’s a win that day, if you can move a couple of coal-fired plants away from the Taj Mahal in a way that preserves that token of love, that’s a win.
