China To Overtake US As Leading Wind Producer By 2016

Arguably, neither the US nor China can claim the title of being a wind leader. That honor would fall to Denmark, which gets 40% of its electricity from wind. Everything China or the US does is huge in absolute numbers, simply because they can spread that effort over a large number of taxpayers. Percentages are generally much more meaningful. If you insist on making it a US-China competition, I’d still suggest the US is the clear winner. It gets a greater share of its electricity from wind, thus it leads China on wind. China is installing a lot of wind, but it is also installing a lot of everything else. In the US, new wind installations make up a large share of new generating capacity, so the total share of wind in the electricity mix is rising fast.
