While the solar photovoltaic manufacturing industry is in the midst of a global shakeout where it's all about cost per watt and module efficiency, Cogenra operates in a different realm. Although the firm's electricity-hot water hybrid cogeneration equipment has a PV element, the dollar-per-watt metric is somewhat less applicable. The metric used by Cogenra is gallons of hot water per day. Electricity produced by the tracking low-concentration assembly improves payback time and spins the meter backward in net metering situations. One important metric to consider is that the 30-employee firm has landed 30 projects in five countries in the last nine months, including Facebook and two military installations.
