What the Budget Debate Means for the Environment The U.S. Congress and the Obama administration are currently debating what the budget priorities of the government should be for this year and next. Some in Congress have proposed making deep and potentially disastrous cuts in important programs, including those supporting just about everything WWF and our supporters care about. International conservation efforts to save threatened species and wild places, environmental protection programs in the U.S., basic funding for research into clean energy, efforts to study and solve climate change: all of these priorities would be cut to the bone if some of the more extreme budget proposals were allowed to pass.
