86 Years Old Real-Life Robinson Crusoe Creates Tortoise Sanctuary on Private Island

Has Been Offered Millions to Sell His Island... But Always Refused Now this is a story that warms the heart. Brendon Grimshaw, originally from Yorkshire, UK, bought a tiny island called Moyenne in 1962 for £8000. It's called Moyenne and located in the Indian Ocean. When he got there, there were 4 trees. Since then, he's been reintroducing native tortoises (some of which are now pretty huge!) and planting trees, slowly but surely turning the island into a tropical paradise, both for himself and his tortoises. After refusing to sell the island to hotel chains, it has now become one of the world's smallest national parks. Kudos Mr. Grimshaw! Via BBC , Kottke See also: 6.8 Million Birds Die Because of Communication Towers in North America Each Year
