These tiny gardens set in gem-like planters give new life to the concept of jewelry.

Like a living talisman strung around the neck or pinned to the lapel, the wearable planters made by Colleen Jordan allow their wearer to tote around a sweet bit of greenery. Whether a wee sprouting sprig, succulent, air plant , or plucked posy, there is something undeniably magical about being able to wear a plant so close to your heart throughout the day. The original idea for the wearable planter came to the Atlanta-based artist from the desire to create something with an heirloom quality, but out of plastic. Her use of polymeric materials may be counterintuitive to the green set, but in her context, this antithesis of planned obsolescence makes sense. It's a material that last for thousands of years, yet its applications are generally only temporary.
