New funding announced for energy storage research

Warwick University is to lead a five-year study into ways in which the UK can develop low-cost energy storage systems to balance intermittent renewable energy supplies, after securing a £3m government grant. The project, dubbed Integrated, Market-fit and Affordable Grid-scale Energy Storage (IMAGES ), brings together a consortium that also features the University of Nottingham and the University of Loughborough and 13 industrial partners, including Rolls-Royce, National Grid and E.ON's new build and technology division.
