Limits of wind, Green blob conspiracy & Climate change & colder winters - the weekend's energy news

1) Report finds offshore wind can't guarantee power as "green blob" investigated The Telegraph (and others) report on a study by the centre-right Adam Smith Institute which claims that 10GW of offshore wind could only be counted on to provide 2% of it's maximum output 24/7.The studies authors argue this means that large amounts of gas power will be needed for backup arguing this makes wind an inefficient form of energy. The study comes as a Mail on Sunday Investigation claims charitable organisations and not for profits are channeling millions of pounds into the "Green Blob" - a network green groups campaigning for carbon and clean energy targets. The paper claims their apparent success in securing the UK's Climate Change act could drive up bills and leave the UK at a disadvantage if - as it expects - global governments back out of tackling emissions.
