Connie Hedegaard, Commissioner for Climate Action Dear Ms. Hedegaard, I am writing to express extreme concern with the European Commission failure to pass legislation to rightly label Canadaâs tar sand oil as being âhighly pollutingâ under EUâs Fuel Quality Directive (FQD). Further delays are entirely inappropriate given that burning tar sands in addition to other already established fossil fuels will virtually ensure abrupt climate change. I am writing to demand that you and the EU follow through on your climate commitments, and designate tar sands as highly polluting, in order to begin ending Europeâs fossil fuel dependence, and provide a level playing field for exponentially growing renewable energy, conservation, and efficiency.
