It is very important for kids to get off the couch, put down the remote/game stick and get outside. The kids nowadays don't have the least idea of what is beyond the cement line. If they met a squirrel, they wouldn't have any idea of what it is or that/how it is different from a chipmunk. There was nothing wrong with playing sandlot ball, riding a bike, jumping rope, skating in the winter and all the things our imagination would allow us to do. We stayed out till sundown (having gone out at sunup), went home for dinner and never suffered from it. We didn't need drugs, liquor, knives or guns to solve a problem. So what if someone had a shiner, they got it legally and could show it proudly.
