The three companies proclaimed are: - Umpqua Energy: Based in Medford, Oregon, it uses an Argonne National Laboratory technology to develop a system that allows a petrol engine to operate in an extreme lean burn mode – thus helping to increase mileage. Typically one of the downsides of a lean burn engine is that there are increased emissions to the environment. However, the EVOPAC system from Umpqua Energy combines a DeNOx Catalyst with an advanced hydrogen injection system to convert the fuel into hydrogen.
