WDCS International - Captivity - A Brutal Drive Hunt Season Continues In Taiji: via @AddThis

To this date in early November, observers estimate that since the start of the season (September) a total of 173 dolphins from four species have been driven into the cove in Taiji, Japan. Of this total 134 were killed, 28 were released, 6 were live-capture and approximately 5 have an unknown status. Species captured, sold and killed include; bottlenose dolphins, false killer whales, Risso's dolphins and striped dolphins. The quotas for this season are 2165 dolphins of mixed species for Taiji; and 363 dolphins for Futo. Although Futo has not conducted a hunt since 2004, its quota is still active and can be resumed at any time. In addition, sources indicate that permits to obtain orcas for aquaria through the drive hunts are still outstanding.
