Like most things in life, it not all or nothing, black or white. Spanking has a role in raising good kids, just as patience, understanding, lots and lots of love and reasoning do. Used in moderation with clear rules and penalties established, almost all children are the better for being spanked and knowing they might be spanked. I know that many of my elementary school classmates agree. The best, most admired teacher at our ES in Cincinnati OH in the 1950s was our male gym teacher. As a 6th grader, I was in his home room, and we knew if we behaved well throughout the year that we would have the best end-of-year party in the school, courtesy of him.
