This Amazon Fungus Can Eat Your Garden Hose! | Care2 Causes

Hmmm, interesting... What does the fungi, Pestalotiopsis microspora naturally eat in the jungles of Ecuador? I don't think Plastic is growing there, is it? This organism is a widespread saprophyte on bark and decaying plant material, it is also found as an endophyte in many plant species. I see that this fungi produces TAXOL which is an important chemotherapeutic drug used in the treatment of breast and ovarian cancers. Hmmm, placing this South American Fungi in our landfills which will enter our Water Supply that our Plants, Wildlife and US will be drinking it. Wow I think I would rather live with Plastics in our Landfill. The fungus appears to be genetically diverse in that almost every isolate has distinctive biochemical and phenotypic traits. There is so much to read on this Fungi see http://mic.sgmjournals.org/content/146/8/2079.full
