On a Snowmobile, Stippled Pleasures By SUSANNAH HOPKINS LEISHER Craig Leisher Craig Leisher, the author’s husband, and one of their sons transporting the family’s weekly load of trash and recyclables via snowmobile in Maine. Our family, including three boys ages 8, 10 and 11 and two cats, is seven months into our year in the woods , and at long last we are snowbound. We’ve been waiting for this since October! Our local friends have been assuring us, “Once it starts, it won’t let up — and you’ll be wishing it would,” but so far this has not been the case. We have a decent 10 inches on the ground, but it’s been days since we had a top-up. At least the cycle of teasingly little snow, then sleet and an abomination of rain, finally turning to a crust of ice, has abated. But winter is more than half over. It seems we ended up in Maine during one of the warmest winters the state ...
