What Are the Romney and Gingrich Plans For Energy in the U.S.?: Although the GOP presidential primary race rem...

I expect Republicans to trash the environment. What I find disturbing is their shorsightedness on national security. Our military is far more dependant on fossil fuels than any of our likely foes. Republicans are firm supporters of free trade, which is increasing wealth and fossil fuel consumption in developing nations. This is a constant increase in fossil fuel demand. So everything boils to to peak oil. Outright rejection of peak oil is problematic, because many people in the oil industry acknoledge that oil is finite. If you accept the concept of peak oil, then there must be some time when demand exceeds supply and now the US, and in particular our military, is either fighting wars for preferred access and pricing, or is simply outbidding all other nations for the oil that remains. $100/barrel oil would be but a fond memory when this finally happens.
