We've been involved in some fantastic projects of late, working with schools, libraries, businesses and more, but we just love this one. Portsmouth's water is now the first in the country to be pumped by solar power! Portsmouth Water has invested in solar power for six of its water treatment works. Designed and installed by Solarcentury, each of the sites has 50kWp of solar across its reservoir roofs and land at the treatment works, the majority of the power generated will be used directly on-site for pumping and treating water. The utility wants to reduce its exposure to rising electricity prices, increasing its financial robustness. The amount of electricity generated each year is expected to be 42,500 units, generating an income from the Feed-in tariff as well as saving the organisation at least £4,000 a year in electricity costs.
