The Tragic Toll of #ExtremeWeather on Vulnerable Nations #climate

This weekend, Typhoon Haiyan, possibly the strongest tropical cyclone to reach land in recorded history hit the Philippines, pounding the country with wind speeds of 155-mph and a massive storm surge that reached up to 16 feet high. CNN reports that the International Committee of the Red Cross estimates that some 10,000 people may have died in the storm. With some 9.5 million people affected by the typhoon and millions displaced from their homes, children are expected to be among the most affected. CNN has collected a listing of numerous organizations that are helping to provide aid to the victims here : Scientists and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have identified a link between the intensity of typhoons and warmer ocean waters.
