Keystone XL's Cousin Shuts Down Twice

Keystone XL’s Cousin Shuts Down Twice By DAN FROSCH The company proposing a controversial oil pipeline that would stretch from Canada to the Texas Gulf Coast had a related pipeline that it operates shut down over the last two days after the line suffered power problems. The company, TransCanada, said that its Keystone pipeline, which runs from Alberta to Cushing, Okla., went down for three hours on Tuesday after a Canadian utility that powers the pipeline dealt with shortages. TransCanada voluntarily shut Keystone down a second time on Tuesday night to inspect equipment, but restarted it on Wednesday morning after finding nothing amiss. “Nothing was related to the safety of the pipeline or compromised the safety of the pipeline in any way,” said Terry Cunha, a spokesman for TransCanada, who added that the latter shutdown was for routine inspections.
