It is not exactly news that our appetite for fashion has wide-ranging environmental and social effects. But as shoppers become increasingly eco-conscious, the big question is how much and what high street shops are doing (if anything) to improve their environmental performance? None of this is easy to answer, which is why Ethical Consumer’s (www.ethicalconsumer.org ) high street buying guide is so useful. The guide covers 32 of the most popular high street brands and provides information on what they are doing, or in some cases not doing, in terms of social and environmental responsibility.
