Airlines launch latest all out assault on EU's emissions trading plans:

UK airlines have written to Vince Cable, asking the business secretary for assurances that non-European carriers will not be allowed to avoid new emissions-based charges, which are due to come into effect from next year as part of the expansion of the EU's Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). European governments are facing fierce lobbying from non-European airlines, which have launched a legal action against Brussels, arguing that the EU lacks the authority to force non-European airlines to purchase emissions allowances.
