US Department of Energy pledges greater focus on green transport

The US Department of Energy (DoE) promised yesterday to redirect some of its $3bn research budget to better support electric vehicles and smart grid technologies, after a major review of the department's activities concluded that it is too focused on supporting technologies that remain several decades from commercialisation. The inaugural Quadrennial Technology Review (PDF) takes a microscope to the department's current research and development activity, and sets out new guidelines for how it should prioritise investment decisions in the future.
