Mindless Eating Tied to Your Environment

Mindless eating is one of the biggest reasons why our country is so overweight . We’ve taken the ritual out of our diet and instead of gathering as a family we eat at out desks, in front of the television, or worse, in the car. It turns out much of our habitual eating is tied to habitual experiences. For example, we love to eat popcorn at the movies without even thinking about it. A study reported on LiveScience actually showed that we consumed the food not because of the taste but because of the experience. According to Live Science : "When we've repeatedly eaten a particular food in a particular environment, our brain comes to associate the food with that environment and make us keep eating as long as those environmental cues are present," study researcher David Neal, a psychology professor at University of Southern California, said in a statement.
