House Hard at Work: Strips Renewable Energy Funding, EPA Regs

The Republican-dominated House of Representives passed the previously defeated stopgap spending measure last night that would have otherwise shut down the Federal Government. This time the bill was held hostage by $100 million needed for emergency disaster aid. Republicans wouldn't approve those funds unless they were offset by spending cuts. After a searing attack by Rep. Issa (R-CA) in a hearing on renewable energy subsidies yesterday , Republicans found their offset. The bill they passed last night strips $100 million from the Department of Energy (DOE) loan guarantee program for renewable energy companies. They also stripped $1.5 billion from DOE's Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Program, which supports car manufacturers retooling to make energy-efficient vehicles.
