Social Innovation Needed for Environmental Solutions

Social Innovation Needed for Environmental Solutions This September the UK's first-ever plant for recycling nappies opened its facility: a centre of social innovation that is helping to save the ozone. The plant will also recycle feminine hygiene and adult incontinence products. It is the first of five centres planned over four years by Knowaste , an organisation specialising in Absorbent Hygiene Product (AHP) waste recycling. Its work will be crucial, making a positive impact on the environment by reducing the contamination of underground water supplies. 98% of the nappy waste will be diverted from landfill sites, which will help to dramatically reduce landfill gases, the main constituents of which are methane and carbon dioxide.
