Can financial innovation save forests?

Creating specialised forest bonds could bring in much needed private finance to reduce emissions and protect some of the world's most fragile areas, green campaigners will say today. Over $30bn will have to be found each year by 2020 just to halve deforestation and prevent the escape of the huge stores of carbon held in tropical forests and substantial species loss, according to WWF, the Global Canopy Programme and investor-focused NGO the Climate Bonds Initiative .
