Burning gas instead of coal will not slow climate change

The use of natural gas rather than coal to meet the world's energy needs might reduce emissions but would have little effect on climate change, new research has found. The study, to be published in Climate Change Letters in October, highlights the complicated way in which burning fossil fuels affects the environment. It takes issue with the arguments that simply switching to gas would solve the planet's climate crisis, or that gas would be an effective 'bridging technology' before greener generation comes online.
