Imagining a Blur of Fracking Activity: The state projects that trucks would make nearly 7,000 trips for each hor...

Associated Press A hydraulic fracturing site near Morgantown, Pa. As I reported in Thursday’s Times, the complete environmental document detailing how horizontal hydraulic fracturing could affect the communities in upstate New York where most of this gas drilling would take place is out for public review. It may take days for state residents to sift through it. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will accept feedback from the public until Dec. 12 on both its proposed rules to govern hydrofracking and the environmental assessment of its effects. Then it is expected to complete the regulations and start issuing drilling permits next year. Despite its dull title (the Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement), the document offers some interesting tidbits of information on how the drilling will affect quality of life in various places and how ...
