Is Namibian Resolve to Slaughter Seals Eroding? By Steve Roest, CEO of Sea Shepherd Following Sea Shepherd’s summer campaign to protect the seals of Namibia, there has been an international outcry regarding the issue. The pressure on the Namibian government, and particularly on the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, to end the brutal and senseless annual slaughter of over 90,000 seals has led to an invitation for Sea Shepherd to attend what may be a pivotal meeting in Namibia on this month of September, the 20th, to discuss the issue with the Ombudsman and other stakeholders. A lot has happened since Sea Shepherd’s Namibian team came back from operation Desert Seal at the end of July, with celebrities publicly speaking out against the cruelty and many more NGOs picking up on the issue, the press and media pressure on Namibia is truly international and the pressure...
