More Reflections on Failed PV Firm Solyndra: First comes innovation, then funding, then struggles, market forc...

There are / were (too) few semiconductor PROCESS engineers involved in founding, conceiving and oversight. Equipment designers ( mostly AMAT associated), are the root cause of the “challenges” as any decent process engineer would have disparaged the tube processing exotic “ballet equipment” and exotic process flow conceived of. A quick read of the patents indicated the concept was heavily dependent on custom equipment designs to no advantage in throughput nor efficiency, hence costs could not be low ( capital expenditures & throughput drive costs - are the main driver in fact ) Being overly enamored of AMAT or other equipment designers . Miasole has a milder form of the same affliction - custom equipment design when none needed to get into production - air to air roll to roll was NOT worth the large monies spent and slow efficiency ramp / learning curve, especially when ET...
