IUCN’s annual report for 2010 takes a look at activities undertaken, and progress made towards our conservation objectives. The Nature of Progress presents highlights of 2010 that was designated the International Year of Biodiversity by the United Nations—a landmark year for charting the way forward on how we value, protect and respect nature. A new ‘Big Plan’ for nature, which aims to steer public and private decision making over the next decade, was adopted by nearly 200 governments during the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Nagoya, Japan in October.
