Dot Earth Blog: Does New York City Need Surge Protection?

Eric Baard , a founder of the Long Island City Community Boathouse in the borough of Queens, reacted to my piece exploring New York City’s potential responses to moderate waterfront flooding from Irene by noting Mayor Michael M. Bloomberg ’s reaction to a question about waterfront high-rises and storm surge barriers for the city at a news conference earlier this year.
