New York Spared Major Surge as Irene Heads North: By @revkin

This is the live view in Manhattan, as Irene, now a tropical storm , heads north mainly as a Floyd-like rainmaker on its way toward Canada. (Having covered Tropical Storm Floyd in 1999, I noted similarities in a post on Tuesday.) There’s a lot more minute-to-minute input on the City Room blog on regional impacts. In the Hudson Valley the winds are picking up but the power’s still on.
