Iceland not hunting endangered fin whales this year, but whalers are clear: they plan to resume whaling next season
2011-08-24 No Fin Whaling In Iceland In 2011? The Icelandic newspaper Skessuhorn has reported that there is likely to be no fin whaling in 2011. The paper interviewed Gunnlaugur Fjólar Gunnlaugsson the supervisor at the whaling station in Hvalfjirði, and he is quoted as saying that they had been ready to go whaling and could have taken a quota of 150 but due to developments in Japan after the earthquake/tsunami the Hvalur company is hoping that things will be better next spring.
