With only 24 hours in a day, Portland designer Alicia Wood has to make every second count. Her eponymous label, Ms. Wood , first developed in 2007 as a line of kimono-style robes, has since evolved into a full-fledged collection of sleek organic-cotton and silk separates, recycled-leather bags, salvaged-wood jewelry , and towering wedge heels. As a work-at-home mom, Wood can usually be found catering to her family's needs. Once night falls, however, it's her other "baby" that gets her focus. Sleep deprivation may cause most people to curl up in a fetal position, but not Wood. In fact, Ms. Wood was crowned the winner of Portland Fashion Week's "Catapult" competition last summer, an honor that includes a free spot at the fashion show in October.
