Why a Drought Stricken Texas Town Turned the Water Off: Texas is suffering in one of the worst droughts in recor...

Texas is suffering in one of the worst droughts in recorded history, a drought that undoubtedly makes water even more of a necessity. But residents of the small Texas town of Kemp are learning that water isn’t something to be taken for granted. The drought added undue stress to Kemp’s aging water line pipes, according to CBS Local , causing an uncomfortable situation for residents. “You don’t really appreciate water until it’s gone,” said one Kemp resident. Upwards of 14 water line breaks have caused the mayor to shut off water in order to do repairs to the system and refill depleted water towers. In all, Kemp has lost 2 million gallons of water as a result of the breaks. Thankfully, water needs are being taken care of at a water station in the center of town, providing drinking water and water to refill toilets.
